You didn't say in which direction, but if northerly, it could be the flare stakes at Mossmorran petrochemical plant. They can be very illuminating some nights.
Reflection from Mossmoran burning off gases possibly?
They were definately something flying in the sky coming from the south ish.
They seem to move really slowly and with no sound. I though they may be helicopters but I would have been able to hear them. They seem to stop mid air for a bit and then vanish into thin air.
I saw them a couple of months ago and my neighbour saw them this weekend. Somebody else must have seen them! Took a photo the first time because it was so weird.
The nearest thing I can describe it to is as if the light bit has come off of a street light and is floating in the sky.
How high up are they? Could it be a plane? The red light on the wing will appear to vanish as the plane turns.
I know exactly what you are speaking about - as my Husband and I saw the same things a few months back a couple of times! Actually, I think that they are 'Lumieres'......you can buy 'mini hot air balloon' type lumieres now for celebrations at weddings etc., and then people light them and release them into the sky! They looked like bright candle flames.....so I was assuming that this is what they are!
These are also known as Chinese sky flying lanterns and can be bought for weddings and celebrations. They are said to bring good luck and prosperity at weddings, new year etc. They can fly for up to 20 mins and one mile high and are also bio-degradable. The lanterns fly by using hot air from a candlelight fuel cell when lit. My husband found out about them through a search on Google.
This sounds like thats what they might have been - I thought we were being monitored by somebody to see if we were worth abducting!
Strathaven: 01/01/2010. My wife, children and myself saw orange lights in the sky last night. There was no sound and we saw a plane pass above one of the lights, therefore we were able to compare them and elininate the possibility of them being a plane or a helicopter. We saw 4 in total all following roughlly the same path, i.e. NE to SW at approx. 6.00 p.m.. I saw one light approx. one week ago which was very bright as it came thro. some low level cloud above Strathaven Park as I was walking the dog. Again it was silent. On this occasion it changed direction quickly and went off at about 90 degrees. The light remained orange even although it was travelling away from me. It then appeared to travel upwards and disappear.
i know what you mean i've seen them to one last week and two this week and it ain't not plane's not when there grounded till sunday at the earlyest i've been seeing then over egham and staines near london
Witnessed 8 lights moving soute to north at 22.45 on 24/04/2010. They were moving quickley across the sky and appeared to be climbimg as the went out of sight Location south west Oxfordshire.
Did anyone else see the lights as described by other members - bright orange lights in the sky over SE Cheshire on the night of Saturday 19 June 2010. Ten in all they rose one at a time in five or six minute intervals - the best description is one Ive read already - as if streetlights had come loose and floated up. Definitely sodium light coloured. This was betweeen 11.20 and midnight - an amazing sight! Planes crossed the sky while all this was going on - their landing lights flickering - and these lights were not planes!
If they were chinese lanterns as has been suggested - weather conditions must have been very calm as each light appeared from the same place and took the same trajectory across the sky before fading to a pin prick of light? Any other ideas?
with regard to the orange lights me and my husband saw 3 orange lights the other night a couple of seconds later 2 more went past they were funny shaped like a pompom effect is the only way i can describe them my husband thought they might be chinese lanterns but i haven,t seen any that shape when i looked on the the web site
I was in Mumbles, Swansea last night. Just after 11pm (27th August), an orange light appeared from the horizon on my left view. It was quite large, very bright and had an undertail like stars have. It moved from north to south, visible for about two minutes before burning away. Its trajectory was a little erratic.
Another four such lights appeared immediately afterwards, quite evenly spaced.
They were not planes. There were planes in the sky travelling very differently. I also saw three shooting stars during the same ten minutes or so.
Chinese lanterns, you say?
Last year during late summer I saw 5 to 7 Very bright Orange lights. Along the Delaware River. they flew in a single file formation then the first 3 fromed a triangle and the rest flew in the center one by one and diappeared one at a time.
Coming back from Thirsk on 27thh August 2011 on A19 at around 9.45p.m. my 10 year old son a circular shape of lights with an inner circle of lights in the sky. We had just driven back past Linton-on-Ouse. Anyone any ideas
On Saturday 27th August I saw three extrmely bright orange lights fly over my house right above my head. It was 2315hrs and there was no wind and the sky was clear. I stood rooted to the spot in disbelief at what I was seeing, as there was no sound coming from them. They were quite high up, probably 500metres, and they must have been about 10 to 15 feet in diameter. The glow they were emitting seemed to be just at the front in the direction of travel, and the brightness was like looking at the amber light on a set of traffic lights from close up, very dazzling.
The first one took me by shock, then another appeared, then the third one, they were travelling very fast, but they were not aircraft, they were absolutely silent, that is the most puzzling thing for me to understand. I reported it to a website that deals with uk ufo sightings, but as yet they have not printed my story. The speed they were travelling at was similar to the speed of small jet aircraft, around 400-500 mph. They were not lanterns af any kind, as it is impossible for any lantern to move at that speed, so, WHAT WERE THEY ????? By the way, I live in Dundee, and the objects were moving west to east, spaced out about 1000 metres apart.
i saw the 5 orange lights to, at 12:00pm 30.09.2011, i live in Albania (Tirana), it seems that this lights are everywhere, i think is something else then chinese lights or mini hot air balloon for celebration.
