The exchange is one of 62 across the UK that BT plans to upgrade to receive faster, fibreoptic broadband by summer 2010.

The upgrade in Dalgety Bay will see the exchange being kitted up with VDSL+ (Very High Bitrate Digital Subscriber Line), which will provide fibre-from-the-exchange (FTTC) to the provider's road-side cabinets.

The result of these new fibre connections will be a maximum speed using this new fibre is 40Mb - more than doubling the current download speeds of between 10Mb and 20Mb.

Excellent news. All we have to do is to watch out for diggers laying the fibre to our roadside cabinets -at the bottom of the hill in St Davids Harbour! Or is the pipe holding the copper wide enough to take the fibre? Is there a schedule we can view?
