Dalgety Bay author publishes new local history book
1 DecemberA new book by a Dalgety Bay author Eric Simpson has just been published, looking back at the history of south west Fife – a fascinating look into the past…
‘Inverkeithing & North Queensferry Through Time’ by local historian and writer Eric Simpson in collaboration with colleague George Robertson is a fascinating selection of photographs tracing some of the many ways in which Inverkeithing and North Queensferry has changed and developed over the last century.
Eric Simpson is a freelance lecturer and writer, and has lived in Dalgety Bay since 1966. Eric commuted to Edinburgh via Inverkeithing Railway Station for many years, and developed an interest in the history of that ancient burgh and its connection with the similarly old Queensferry Passage. Though a comparative newcomer to Fife, in 1968, Eric was asked to give a series of educational lectures on the local history of Inverkeithing. This was followed by a similar series of talks in North Queensferry and subsequently in other Fife communities. The upshot was Eric’s publication of a number of Fife-centered historical works. Eric is now a historical adviser to the BBC TV series Grand Tours of Scotland.
Although born in Rosyth, co-author George Robertson can trace his family connections with Inverkeithing and North Queensferry over a period of two-hundred years. Various generations of his family have lived in Abbott Place, Cruickness and Port Laing.
